The Madampe Police has arrested a father who has allegedly tortured his 7 year old child by tying the child to a tree and placing leaf cutter ant nests on the child’s head. The 29 year old father of 3 who was arrested yesterday hails from the Madampe – Pambala region. The police who had received a tip concerning the child being tortured had immediately gone and rescued the child who was tied to a teak tree. Reports state that when the police arrived on scene ant nests were placed on the child’s head. The suspect had told the police that he had punished the child in this manner as the child was reluctant to go to school. The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Chilaw District Court today.
